Welcome!
In the Monterey Bay Region, we share a vision, over the next 100+ years, of thriving lands and waters, resilient community infrastructure, ample access to coastal parks and open space, and a flourishing economy. We envision our local governments, Tribes, organizations, academic institutions, and community members working collectively, equitably, inclusively, and collaboratively towards this unified vision of climate resiliency.
We recognize that to achieve this vision it is imperative to meaningfully engage Indigenous communities from the onset. Indigenous Peoples throughout the Monterey Bay Region have played an active and important role in caring for these lands and waters since time immemorial, and the principles of reciprocity and multi-generational responsibility for stewarding the land are foundational to establishing and maintaining a resilient Monterey Bay Region.
We invite non-Indigenous organizations working to create a Climate Resilient Monterey Bay to join Walking the Path of Right Relations, which will build the capacity of non-Indigenous organizations, facilitate relationship-building and support project co-creation.
Objectives
Walking the Path of Right Relations will support non-Indigenous organizations to:
-
Deepen their understanding of the history and current dynamics that impact Indigenous Peoples and ways in which participants and their organizations can harm or advance Indigenous priorities for self-determination and Earth care,
-
Strengthen relationships across non-Indigenous and Indigenous leaders and organizations,
-
Design and adopt new practices for engaging and supporting Indigenous Peoples,
With this foundation, Walking the Path of Right Relations will form a bridge for Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups to explore and initiate partnerships around climate resilience in ways that build capacity for these groups to work together in meaningful and impactful ways.
